Where the Arts Meet Public Health
The YWCA is proud to partner with UCLArts and Healing as a host for the following classes and workshops: - Meditative Dance in the Turkish Healing Tradition (Ali Ungan) - March 31, 2:30 to 4 pm, YWCA Auditorium ($15/class). Connect to and be fully present within your body through a therapeutic Turkish music and movement experience involving the science of maqams (melodic modes used in Middle Eastern music), the effects of Central Asian and Middle Eastern instruments on body and mind, and dances taken from ancient healing traditions in these regions. Each dance consists of a particular set of movements that are simple and easy to follow, in order to enable you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of the present moment. As such, your dance becomes a meditation in movement.
- Stillness in Motion, An Exploration of Breath, Meditation, Qi Gong and Walking - April 14, 10 to 11:30 am, YWCA Auditorium ($15/class). This event will be posted shortly at www.uclartsandhealing.net.
- Awakening from Trauma Through Breath, Sound and Movement (Carolyn Braddock) - April 21, 9 am to 5 pm; Apr 28, 9 am to noon ($75/day). In this workshop, participants will gain awareness of how they hold trauma and acquire a toolbox of means for freeing themselves of the trauma, through the creative arts and practices rooted in the ancient art and philosophy of Tai Ji and Qi Gong. This program is intended for both professional and personal benefit. This is a full 1-day workshop (7 CEUs) with optional half-day follow-up (optional 3 CEUs). Enrollment will open after completion of the 1-day and you will again have the option of CEUs or no CEUs. For more information and to sign up, click HERE.
- Own Your Body (Eva Nemeth) - a creative and individualized process in an ongoing series. Last Friday of every month, 7:15-8:15 pm for women, 8:15-9:15 pm for men ($15/class). Women can continue on and take the men's class if they are comfortable taking a class that focuses on men's needs (This event will be posted shortly at www.uclartsandhealing.net).
